Sauna bathing is a relaxation method gaining popularity, offering deep relaxation and health benefits. Enthusiasts of this practice travel across Poland in search of unique places. And Santa Natura Resort & SPA, with its Estonian sauna being a novelty on the Polish sauna map, certainly deserves attention.
Santa Natura Resort & SPA invites you every Saturday to sessions with the sauna master. In the Estonian sauna, guests will experience a variety of sensations and scents: from sweet, through refreshing citrus, to invigorating menthol and distinctive aromas. Sessions using traditional birch whisk brooms are also organized here. Sauna ceremonies also take place in the steam bath, which is an excellent opportunity to perform a full body peel.
Perhaps sauna bathing has not yet been your favorite form of relaxation. What are sauna sessions and what health benefits do they offer?
You can use the sauna on your own. However, when we talk about sessions or sauna rituals, we refer to events led by a master of the sauna ceremony.
During sauna sessions, participants are subjected to a series of intense heat waves generated by pouring water (often scented with essential oils) over the hot stones placed in the sauna stove. The sauna master, during the session, creates air movement by using towels or fans. All this leads to an increase in both humidity and temperature in the room. The practice usually lasts about 10 minutes.
If this is going to be your first session, remember to prepare for a much higher temperature, and the air may even occasionally feel like it gently burns. For the first time, it is advisable to take a place in the lower part of the sauna.
However, heat and aromatherapy have a very positive effect on our health: they improve circulation, enhance the immune system, cleanse the skin, and also help alleviate muscle and joint pain.
Who is the sauna master? This person is responsible for professionally conducting sauna ceremonies. They ensure the correct temperature and humidity in the sauna and also create the atmosphere, e.g., through aromas, lighting, and sometimes even an appropriate musical background.
Without a doubt, this is a very demanding task: using fans, towels, and other tools, the sauna master moves the air. All this is done for several minutes while standing. This role requires considerable effort and frequent training. The sauna master is also someone who willingly educates. They will explain how to prepare for the session and how to cool down after the ceremony is over. The role of the sauna master is key in creating a unique, healthy, and safe sauna experience.
When entering a dry sauna, remember to take a shower beforehand (preferably warm), and dry your body thoroughly afterwards. Remove jewelry and do not enter wearing swimsuits. It is good to have two towels with you: one for your feet, the other for your body. Felt protective hats, which prevent overheating of the head, are often used in saunas. After the sauna bath, take a shower, remembering to cool the lower parts of your body first, then the upper parts. It is also worth considering cooling down in a swimming pool integrated into the pond located right next to the Estonian sauna. However, remember not to make sudden temperature changes and always perform such practices in the company of another person.
Although the experiences and benefits of sauna bathing are extremely positive, remember that the sauna is unfortunately not for everyone.
Using the sauna may be inadvisable for people suffering from cardiovascular diseases or who are pregnant. People with skin diseases, respiratory system disorders, recent surgeries or injuries, as well as those suffering from epilepsy or thermoregulation disorders should also exercise special caution or avoid the sauna. It is recommended to consult a doctor before using the sauna to avoid negative health effects.
