The Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin in Żelazowa Wola

The Chopin family settled in Żelazowa Wola at the beginning of the 19th century. Fryderyk’s father, Mikołaj Chopin, came there as a tutor for the children of the Skarbeks, the estate owners. His wife, Tekla Justyna née Krzyżanowska Chopin, served as the housekeeper and was a strong support for the family. It was she, despite modest conditions, who created a home full of warmth and care where young Fryderyk could develop his first musical interests.

Justyna also had a significant influence on her son's artistic sensitivity – she came from a family with musical traditions and played instruments herself. Her presence in Fryderyk's life left a mark that may have influenced his future compositions. They spent only a few months together in Żelazowa Wola, but this place forever entered the history of their family and music history.

The modern museum is not only a restored manor house but also multimedia exhibitions that bring closer Chopin’s life and work. Among the exhibits are mementos related to Fryderyk Chopin, such as manuscripts, letters, and period furniture that recreate the atmosphere of his times. A special attraction is the open-air concerts held in summer – Chopin’s music sounding amidst nature is an unforgettable experience.
