The first school bell does not end family travel. The 2026/2027 school calendar offers several chances to travel with children—for winter holidays, Christmas breaks and long weekends, partly determined by headteacher days.
Before booking, check the school calendar and compare it with your holiday options. Some school-free days apply to all pupils, while others are set by each school. Below are the dates to help plan a family break in the 2026/2027 school year.
Headteacher days: what are they and where to check dates?
Headteacher days are extra days free from teaching and educational activities. In primary schools, the headteacher may set up to 8 such days a year; in secondary schools, up to 10. They may fall during exams or between a public holiday and a weekend.
Check the dates in the electronic register or on the school website. For primary schools, parents should be informed of the set headteacher days by 30 September. If children attend different schools, compare both calendars.
A headteacher day does not mean the school is closed. The school must provide care activities for children who need supervision.
Long school weekends in autumn 2026
In autumn 2026, longer breaks from school will depend mainly on the school's decision. Both Teachers' Day and Independence Day fall on Wednesday.
National Education Day—14 October 2026—is free from lessons, but the school may organise ceremonies and other activities. If 12 and 13 October are headteacher days, the weekend creates five days without lessons: 10–14 October. Before planning a trip, check how your child's school organises Teachers' Day.

Independence Day—11 November 2026—gives one day off. If the school adds a break on 9 and 10 November, a family trip could run from 7–11 November. Another option is headteacher days on 12 and 13 November, allowing a stay from 11–15 November.
For a short break, travel time matters. A getaway near Warsaw leaves more time to enjoy the destination: walking, sharing a meal and playing with the children.
Christmas break 2026/2027—how many days off school?
The winter Christmas break runs from 23–31 December 2026. New Year's Day then falls on Friday, followed by the 2–3 January weekend.
School normally resumes on Monday, 4 January 2027. If 4 and 5 January become headteacher days, the break will last until 6 January, Epiphany. In this case, children have 15 days without lessons.
This is time for festive gatherings, but also for a short trip between Christmas and New Year's Eve. When planning a stay with children, check the selected package—the activities and workshops may run only on certain dates.
Winter holidays 2027—dates by region
Winter holidays in the 2026/2027 school year occur in three periods. Dates depend on the region where the child's school is located.
- 18–31 January 2027 Lower Silesian, Łódź, Opole, Subcarpathian, Podlaskie, Silesian
- 1–14 February 2027 Lublin, Masovian, Pomeranian, Świętokrzyskie
- 15–28 February 2027 Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lubusz, Lesser Poland, Warmian-Masurian, Greater Poland, West Pomeranian
Families in Warsaw and elsewhere in Masovian Voivodeship have winter holidays in the first half of February. Schools in Łódź Voivodeship break earlier, in the second half of January.
There is no need to spend the full two weeks on one trip. A few days at a hotel with a pool can be combined with the rest of the break at home. A winter stay at Santa Natura offers walks and wellness time, even when the weather is unsuitable for playing in the snow.
Easter 2027—six days off school
The spring Christmas break runs from 25–30 March 2027, Thursday to Tuesday. Easter falls on 28 March, and Easter Monday on 29 March. Pupils return to lessons on Wednesday, 31 March.
These six school-free days do not require an additional headteacher decision. Use them to visit relatives or enjoy a family hotel stay. For an Easter trip, check whether the offer includes festive meals and what activities are planned for children.
May long weekend & Corpus Christi 2027: longer-break
The 2027 May long weekend runs from 1–3 May, Saturday to Monday. Without extra headteacher days, children therefore have three days off and return to school on Tuesday, 4 May.
If you plan to leave on Friday, 30 April, a parent's leave alone will not give the child a day off lessons. Check whether the school included this date in its additional days-off calendar.
In 2027, Corpus Christi falls on Thursday, 27 May. If Friday, 28 May, is a headteacher day, there will be a four-day weekend, 27–30 May. Parents working Monday to Friday will then need to take Friday off.
By late May, you can plan longer walks and family bike trips, adapting the route to the weather and the children's ages. During a stay at Santa Natura, consider visiting Nieborów or Arkadia.
