Autumn is in full swing, and with it comes the mushroom picking season. Find out why Bolimowski Landscape Park is the perfect place for mushroom hunters and how to combine your forest passion with relaxation.
The smell of damp moss, morning mist rising among the trees, and that unique silence that is only broken by the rustling of leaves underfoot. Autumn in the forest is a magical time, and for many of us, it is above all a synonym for mushroom picking – our national sport. What if you combined this forest passion with luxurious rest and regeneration in the SPA?
Bolimowski Landscape Park
Bolimowski Landscape Park is one of the largest forest complexes in central Poland, stretching between Łódź and Warsaw. Its heart is the wild Rawka River, and the landscape is dominated by pine forests, oak woodlands, and picturesque alder groves. It is home to roe deer, wild boars, moose, and countless bird species, making every walk here a close encounter with nature.
Bolimowski Landscape Park is also a true treasure for every mushroom lover. The mixed forests abound with the most sought-after species:
- Porcini mushrooms (boletus edulis): the kings of the forest, hidden under oaks and pines.
- Bay boletes: brown and golden, often growing in whole families.
- Leccinum mushrooms: elegant mushrooms that are easy to find under birches.
- Chanterelles and slippery jacks: perfect for scrambled eggs or aromatic sauce.
Remember! Only pick mushrooms you are 100% sure about. Always have a mushroom atlas with you or use identification apps.
Can you pick mushrooms in Bolimowski Landscape Park?
Yes, absolutely! This is one of the most frequently asked questions. Unlike national parks, in landscape parks such as Bolimowski, gathering mushrooms and forest fruits for personal use is allowed. However, it should be remembered that there are several nature reserves within the Park where collecting mushrooms, forest fruits, and herbs is completely prohibited. The most important of these are the “Rawka River,” “Siwica Meadow,” “Mariańska Forest,” and “Kopanicha” reserves. Protection is strict in these areas, so please stay only on marked trails, do not damage the mycelium, and leave no traces behind.
Should you twist or cut the mushrooms you find? – the evergreen dilemma
This is a debate that has divided mushroom pickers for years. The truth is that both methods, if done gently, do not harm the mycelium. Mycologists (mushroom experts) often recommend carefully twisting the fruiting body out of the ground. This allows the mushroom to be examined in its entirety (including the stem), which is key for species identification. After removing the mushroom, it is advisable to cover the spot with moss or forest litter to protect the exposed mycelium from drying out.
Regardless of the method, remember one thing – always collect mushrooms in a wicker basket! A breathable basket provides mushrooms with air circulation, preventing them from spoiling and keeping them fresh. Moreover, as you walk, spores fall through the gaps in the basket, allowing mushrooms to spread anew. Never use plastic bags!
Good practice – take your trash out of the forest
The forest gives us its treasures – beautiful views, clean air, and delicious mushrooms. Let's repay it with care. Take a small bag with you and if you come across an abandoned bottle or wrapper on your way, take it with you. Such a small gesture has great significance for maintaining the cleanliness and natural beauty of our forests.
